Charity performance of Tosca raising money for Diabetes UK
Award-winning Scottish-English soprano Megan Strachan is recognised for her dramatically compelling performances, with a voice of commanding force and razor-sharp clarity. Her repertoire currently centres on lyric-spinto roles, with future development towards lighter dramatic repertoire. Megan graduated with an MMus distinction from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and is a first-prize winner of the Isobel Buchanan Award. She continues her studies with Joy Mammen, Peter Bronder and, more recently, David Kirby-Ashmore.Recent highlights include Mimì in La bohème with Cardiff Cotswold Opera and Judith in Bluebeard’s Castle with Tessitoura. She also sang the title role in Suor Angelica on tour with Opera Anywhere and made her debut as Tosca in a fundraising performance for Diabetes UK. Cover roles include Tosca (Oxford Opera), Gilda (Rigoletto, If Opera) and Violetta (La traviata, Instant Opera). In an extraordinary last-minute engagement, she learnt the role of Rosalinde in just seven hours, enabling If Opera to proceed with their scheduled performance of Die Fledermaus.Alongside her performing career, Megan is the creative director of Cardiff Cotswold Opera, where she plays a central role in shaping the company’s artistic programming and development. She is also a founding member of Sorelle, an all-female operatic trio dedicated to presenting opera in accessible and engaging formats. Sorelle focuses on close ensemble work and innovative performance settings to create an immersive and unique experience.
